Which one is the better tag to say that a way is oneway for pedestrians?

Can we interpret it like this:

oneway=yes has the default meaning “vehicle:backward=no, foot:backward=yes”.

No! oneway (edit: (on streets)) does not say anything about foot access. A motorway is not foot:backward=yes when you put oneway=yes on it.
