Washington State Route name and ref tag changes

Most of the other states use their state abbreviation for their state highways, including all of the state’s western neighbors, why should Washington change?

Interestingly though, Oregon’s DOT does seem to use OR ### as its abbreviation for its state highways, so I’m not sure this is an apples to apples comparison.
