Discussion about deleting the highway samples page

And, while at it, let’s choose a main tag that covers “pathless” values without having to say “it’s a path but not exactly a path”. Let’s get rid of highwayarcical concepts!

It’s the third photo. So far I’m using the translation from the legend image (Spuren = Traces). Trace or traces may imply occasional markers, cairns, something that resembles a path at places, foot or ground marks, etc. Sounds ok for now, until someone comes up with a better term.
The true “pathless”, I agree, does not need to be mapped.

The problem is, it gets mapped and there does not seem to be a consensus to remove such trails. Plus what traces are there on those tidal-beach trails? Maybe there is something between trail and pathless, but pathless is a thing. Maybe there is also scramble and mountaineering_route.

The third photo is a scramble, and a mountaineering route. And a T6 hiking path. And a UIAA II+ climbing route.
At least it’s not pathless, although there is no path.

Edit: one of those beach trails had a marker? Introduce Pathless / Alpine Path / Off-Path? - #84 by ezekielf

Could we try and avoid this kind of paradox? After 4 years of active contributing I still feel like an outsider because of this kind of shared secret. I have a strong feeling of solidarity with new contributors on this topic.
